Cathy Gullo, College Planning Counselor
Cathy Gullo, an experienced college planning counselor, founded Scholarship Consultant Services, Inc. in 1992 in Birmingham, Alabama to meet the growing needs of students, parents, and adults for private, personalized college counseling and career assistance. Cathy has over 30 years of educational experience as a high school English teacher, college planning counselor, and educational consultant. As a high school guidance counselor for ten years in the Birmingham Public Schools, Cathy was highly successful in scholarship and testing coordination. In building Scholarship Consultant Services, Inc. throughout the past 16 years, she has developed a College Planning Program model to prepare thousands of students from public and private schools throughout Alabama and other states for college entrance and scholarship consideration. Counseling with families and assisting them with the maze of college planning is her primary focus. As an expert in scholarship coordination/counseling and test-taking, she has lived a success story as her students have gone from high school to college to career. Cathy has a B.S. degree in Secondary Education with a major in English and a M.A degree in Counseling and Guidance from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Other educational experiences include school editor for The Birmingham News, writing and workshop consultant for the State of Alabama Department of Education and the Birmingham Board of Education as well as coordinating numerous civic and community scholarship programs. Her professional memberships include Phi Delta Kappa and the Alabama Counseling Association.
Cathy is also the author of the recently published book entitled Gearing Up To Finance A College Education. This book represents a comprehensive, common sense guide for parents and students who are planning for college and who are seeking professional assistance in guiding their overall process.
